#Wedding Check List 101 after you get #engaged.

Getting Started (Wait, one second, CONGRATULATIONS!)  

• Introduce both families and officially announce engagement (You can do it!)
• Start a budget (Remember it's your special day)
• Start a guest list (don't forget your crazy Aunt June!)
• Select a tentative date and alternate date (Check the weather forcast)
• Consider whether you want to hire a wedding coordinator (Less Stress)
• Create a gift registry (Now you can get that Waffle Maker)
• Research wedding etiquette  (Make sure you check with both sides of the families before you dance in the Church)

Parties

• Consider having an engagement announcement party (All the cool kids are doing this now)
• Sign up for one or more gift registries (Remember some places offer 20% off coupons, Hint Hint BB&B)
• Give shower hostess(es) guest list (Tell the groom to invite his friends, I did and we had a blast with everyone)
• Begin thank-you notes for showers and early gifts (Remember this is round 1 of the thank-you notes)
• Consider booking a cocktail party (Or a Wine Wedding Party)

Guests

• Determine out-of-town guest list (Yes Uncle George will drive 248 miles eat and leave but he will give you a check $$)
• Select hotel(s) for your out-of-town guests (Try to make them all in a central location around your venue, also ask for a shuttle bus)
• Use a Excel, Google, etc program for a  list Manager so you can track the RSVP's (You can use the new Google Wedding tools /Blog coming soon on them)
• Determine parking and transportation needs (Shuttle bus, Taxis, etc, Make sure the person who drank too much has a ride home)
• Consider whether to provide amenity bags for guests staying at a hotel (Bottle Water, Cookies, Anytype of snack - Microwave popcorn is a great idea)

Rehearsal Dinner

• Select rehearsal dinner time and location 
• Meet with caterer/chef/planner and choose rehearsal dinner menu and beverages (Make sure you sample your menu)
• Order and send out rehearsal dinner invitations (Make it FUN!)
• Determine parking and transportation (Valet parking, Paid Parking - Get the scoop first)

Reception

• Investigate reception sites
• Visit and book reception site (Ask about the dancefloor! This is where you will be rocking all night by Okyne Medialab)
• Determine parking and transportation
• Determine a reception agenda (order of program and length of time for each activity talk to your #DJ about this also)
• Meet with caterer/chef/planner and come up with menu ideas (Get something everyone will eat, make sure you ask about a kids menu)
• Get ideas for music you want to hear for dinner and the reception (Free Plug? Sure - We have on-line planning tools for all of your music)
• Consider signing up for a dance class (You've seen the YouTube videos right?)
• Decide on wedding and groom's cakes (Tuff subject I hear)
• Schedule tasting and finalize menu (Get your eats on, make sure you are 100% happy with the tasting)
• If applicable, rent equipment (tables, chairs, etc.)
• If applicable, order beverages, open bar (Just don't over do it)
• Determine seating arrangements and prepare place cards (This is always fun to see where Cousin Billy is going to sit)

Honeymoon

• Determine a honeymoon budget (Remember you may have some spare change after your wedding)
• Start investigating destinations (Cold, Hot, Island, City) If you do travel abroad make sure you get a passport in advance)
• Choose and book honeymoon destination (hotel, travel, transportation, etc.)
• Make a travel checklist (and purchase any needed items)
• Make plans for pets, plants, paper pickup, trash (Have someone check on your home, leave a light on, Don't leave $$ @ home)
• Reconfirm plans (flights, rental cars, download some phone apps you may be able to check status via your mobile)

After the Wedding

• Get your gown cleaned and properly stored (Remind the men to return the monkey suits)
• Preserve your bouquet, (moms know the best on this one)
• Complete name change (Lot's of paperwork and long lines but well worth it!)
• Meet with photographer and/or videographer to decide on your proofs (Ask for on-line proofs)
• Start your Thank you Notes. (Remember any card/item you receive write a note on the back of it)

Many brides dread their floral design consultations.  They feel they don’t know enough about flowers or that they are ill prepared.  Well I would like to give you some ideas and advice to help you have a fantastic floral design consultation.

 First of all, remember that you are hiring a professional.  You can expect the designer to know all about flowers just as you would expect your hair stylist to know all about cutting hair.  Now you may bring in a picture to your hairstylist of how you would like your hair to look but he/she is going to know how to achieve it, if that will work for your hair and the actual techniques and products it will take to realize your vision.  So don’t feel you need to ‘study up’ on all the different flower varieties, seasons and colors.  Your floral designer will know all this information and be able to point you in the right direction.

 Okay, so now that you’ve relaxed knowing that you don’t have to take a course in horticulture or floral design you can have fun looking through magazines, galleries and blogs tagging pictures of flowers, styles and colors you like.  Again, you are not going to worry about knowing all the names of the flowers in the pictures just start a file tucking away the flowers that catch your eye.

 Now add to your file a picture of your gown, pictures of your bridesmaid dresses and color swatches. One of your invitations if you’ve already picked them out, a picture of the front of your church or ceremony site if you will be doing flowers for your ceremony.

 And lastly, put into your file your budget.  I realize that this can be tricky.  Many brides are not sure what they are comfortable spending on flowers and rather just pick out everything and then see how much it costs.  The benefit to having a budget range in mind is the designers you meet with being able to direct you to the best blooms for you and give you advice for making the most of your budget. 

 Now that you have all of this gathered together make some appointments.  It’s always a good idea to meet more than one vendor and most people feel that 3 is ideal. Because floral design is an art you will be looking for a designer whose style you love, someone you can work well with and a proven company that offers the services that are most important to you.

I love when a bride comes to our consultation with her ‘file’ as I know all floral designers do. It gives me opportunity to learn so much about her, her style and what she loves.  Many brides come in apprehensive and leave excited about their wedding flowers.  So come prepared brides and have a fantastic floral design consultation.

Okyne Medialab provided uplighting for us at our NYE wedding. Their ability to work with our venue and get everything up and ready to go was fantastic! The uplights provided an amazing ambiance. You might not think about budgeting for uplighting, but check out their photos on Facebook. Our wedding ballroom is posted on there. What an amazing difference it made to the decor. This is one thing you really need to consider adding to your special day. Their music services are fantastic as well, we had just opted to get a live band for our holiday wedding.

We can't thank you enough for all of your services. From the consultations, to editing the father /daughter song, to getting and keeping our dance floor PACKED the entire night you and Al really provided un-matched service. I would have to say the thing we appreciated the most was how Al really took the reins at the reception, working with the caterer to make sure everything was running smoothly and timely. All I had to do was give a nod and Al knew exactly what to do, it was nice being on the exact same page.

Now for the music - the play list was amazing! It was perfect for our crowd which was ALL ages. Al started off with music that was inviting for everyone to get on the dance floor and played music the entire night that kept them on! The way he blended and cut songs and the perfect time was great so you never felt like a song was going on too long. Everyone we have spoke to after the wedding says they have NEVER seen a dance floor that packed and crazy! It was exactly what we wanted!

I will absolutely recommend Okyne Medialab to any engaged couple that wants to have an all out AMAZING reception.

Al Okyne with Okynemedialab was amazing!!! I met Al at a Wedding that I was working a few years back and from the moment I met him, I knew that he would have to do my Wedding when I finally got engaged :) After I got engaged, Al was one of my first phone calls to see his availability! I was lucky to be able to secure Okynemedialab and have Al as my DJ! Both Al and his wife Stacy were absolutely amazing through the entire planning process. They always sent e-mail reminders of our appointments and a follow-up after as well. I was planning my Wedding from out of state and they actually do Skype appointments which I thought was genius!! At our Wedding it was about 15 minutes before the party was supposed to end and no one wanted it to! Al did such an amazing job keeping the party going, so we extended an additional hour an it was the most fun we had all night! I would recommend Okynemedialab to all brides! Erich was our DJ from Okyne Medialab and we could not have been happier with the experience. He kept the dance floor packed the entire night and handled himself in a professional manor at all times. The technology on their website makes picking your songs and detailing the nights events a breeze; it was head and shoulders above the competition.

Okyne Medialab is true to their image; they were precisely the type of DJ company that my wife and I envisioned when we began our search. Al & Stacy Okyne were great people to deal with throughout the entire planning process. They have created a very useful and user friendly online planning platform for their customers to edit as they wish with music choices and timelines for the wedding reception.

DJ Erich was our DJ and he was EXACTLY what we had envisioned for our special evening. When we arrived at our reception he immediately walked up and introduced himself to us. Erich was extremely professional and made sure to regularly stop by the head table to give a heads up to my wife and I for upcoming moments (i.e. cake cutting, first dance etc..). Since the big day, we've received a number of compliments from friends and family who attended our wedding about how much they enjoyed the music. He did a phenomenal job mixing up the playlist and incorporating his own style.

On a scale of 1-5, both Okyne Medialab and DJ Erich were undoubtedly a 5 rating! If you're considering a DJ for entertainment at your wedding reception, Okyne Medialab MUST be on your list of potential candidates.

Okyne Media Labs were absolutely amazing! We wanted a modern DJ for our wedding who could transition between songs and keep the dance floor going - Erich was awesome and did exactly what we asked for! He was super nice, professional, played great songs, and was honestly a legit DJ (as opposed to the boring wedding DJs who basically play songs from iTunes). Erich even came to our after party and hung out with our wedding party. I'm recommending them to all of my friends and family members, trust me you'll be really happy with them!

Okyne Medialab truly exceeded our expectations and created the ideal environment for everyone to have a blast. Our wedding was so much fun and DJ Jesse kept the dancefloor packed all night long. Al & Stacy go beyond scheduling your date and dj, they genuinely want the customer to be happy and comfortable with their services. We loved the follow-up emails, that really showed us their professionalism. Okyne Medialab's website is very easy to use and it allows you to pick the music you want played among other important details for the special day. From our intial meeting we knew that we were dealing with a professional and reputable company, this was carried out and demonstrated even after our wedding date. Not only did we hire Okyne Media Lab for our dj, we also hired them to place uplights at our venue. Having these glowing lights really added to the fun atmosphere.

Okyne Medialab, Inc, without a doubt, earns every 5star rating in each category. From our initial consultation to the last guest that left our wedding, Okyne Media made it abundantly clear they were there for us. In our minds, and our guests' minds, it was one of the best weddings. Erich rocked the house that night! People tore up the dance floor the entire night and probably would have danced until dawn. Erich worked his magic that evening and mixed a night of music for everyone, from our youngest flower girl to our eldest family member - he even included the Polka we requested!

Every person we interacted with at Okyne from Al, the owner, to Stacy the Operations Manager, to Erich our DJ was super helpful, nice, and professional. They made the process simple, easy, and fun and gave us the most memorable night of our lives. Thank you!

We both agree.. our FAVORITE vendor to work with. Al is so personable and Stacy gets back to you in a timely manner.. not to mention EVERYONE (especially our DJ Erich) was nice. Our wedding went by smoothly (we danced until 1:30am!), although too fast as any bride may agree. We also got uplighting (made the room warm and gave it a different vibe) and dvd player/screen through them. An overall awesome DJ. You won't be disappointed!

Here's the lead... book Okyne Media Lab, and book them immediately to guarantee availability. If you have already booked a different DJ for your wedding or event, forget the deposit and book Okyne.

One question that's asked again & again with a wedding is which elements have the biggest impact on the event, and where to spend money to ensure a fantastic evening. I can tell you without hesitation to immediately book Okyne Media Lab as your DJ. My wife and I went with Okyne Media for our wedding in late August 2010, and couldn't be happier with the entire experience. Don't underestimate the full impact a DJ can have on the event, and no one does it better than Okyne. My wife and I have been to dozens of weddings, and booking Okyne Media Lab was one of the best decisions of our wedding. We had Josh, and he was tremendous throughout the entire evening, cocktail hour to dinner to the dance party. There was not a single moment of the reception where the dancefloor wasn't packed with dancers. We heard from everyone (EVERYONE) about how great the music was at our wedding. Young & old loved the mix, and the party was, dare I say, epic.

The system Okyne runs from start to finish is to say the least, impressive. They have a fully interactive Web site for the bride and groom to utilize, and Al (the owner) meets with the couple to run through the entire event multiple times.

My wife and I will recommend Okyne Media to anyone and everyone. Loved their services and they helped make our big night even more memorable.

You know your DJ rocks when he can keep 3 generations of people on the dance floor all night long. That's exactly what you will get with Okyne Medialab. Al (the owner) has a great stable of excellent DJs and has a knack for the details. I had extremely high expectations of Okyne and they completely exceeded all of them. Al was our DJ and he was not only the best DJ I've ever seen but he was part wedding coordinator helping us keep the night on track. We gave him an idea of what music we liked and he put together a playlist that kept everyone on the dance floor all night. I got so many compliments from my guests on how fun the party was and how amazing the music was. Al made our life so much easier that day because we knew from meeting with him that he was reliable and he always brought his "A" game. It was a pleasure to work with Al and I would not hesitate to book him for another event.

Okyne Medialab was the best DJ we could have chosen for our wedding. After meeting with many DJs in the Chicago area, we met with Al Okyne and immediately knew they were our team. My wife and I got married Aug 14th, 2010 and DJ Matt from Okyne Medialab was our DJ at the W Lakeshore. Directly from the get go DJ Matt put us at ease. He met us at the cocktail hour, after pictures and said "everything is going great, we are all set - now how can I help you?". The dance floor was packed the entire night, to the point that people were chanting "one more song" at the end of the night (being 1:30am). DJ Matt pleased the crowd by playing one more song. I think we could have gone on all night if the W would have let us. So many people came up to us and couldn’t believe how quickly the night went (great music will do that). Not once did my wife or I have to request or say anything to Matt. He progressed the night perfectly, read what the crowd was feeling and really controlled the party. At numerous points through out the evening even our 80+ year old grandparents were up there dancing.

Not to mention did Okyne Medialab provide the best music/MC we could have asked for but they were by far the best vendor we dealt with also (out 8 vendors working the reception). Al and Stacy Okyne (that’s right, how often can you deal directly with the owner) were extremely responsive via email and phone not to mention the many meetings where we sat down with Al in person. Stacy would regularly remind us when payments and planning forms were due. They also have an amazing online planning, payment and song request (play, maybe play, do not play) tool. This came in very handy for my wife and I's crazy busy lives. All I can say is no matter what else you do for your reception be sure to choose OKYNE MEDIALAB as your DJ!!

We hired Al Okyne for our wedding after hearing him rock the dance floor at a friend's wedding last year. He did not disappoint. He has a great knack for reading the dance floor and determining what songs best suit the crowd. He is completely devoid of cheesiness and is equally good at listening to your requests and also creating a great playlist. He's professional throughout the planning process and a pleasure to work with. He's also an all around great guy. We got several compliments about how great our DJ was and even referred him to a friend who plans to use him for her wedding. Highly recommend. You won't be disappointed.
